The Captain took a quick step back, and the Vampires raised their glaives in a turtle formation, shielding the captain. If the Fairy continued to fall, she would be quickly skewered like a shishkabob.

Ridi caught herself quickly before she could be severely punctured. Exhausted, the Fairy leaned over, catching her breath.

The crossbowmen, having reloaded by then, aimed at the Fairy's head. The glaivemen jabbed upwards, at the Fairy. The Vampire leader thought that if the Fairy leapt up, away from the glaives, she would be puctured by many bolts. He chuckled inwardly to himself.

Ridi shifted her glance from the ground to her foe, to see him laughing in an evil manner. She slowly came to a standing position, the glaivemen and crossbow men following her every move. She turned to face the leader. "What do you want, Vampire?"

The Vampire sliced his hand down, through the air, and hundreds of carefully aimed crossbow bolts sped down from the trees, perfectly aimed to pin her body to the ground, as well as kill her. A split second after the bolts were fired, the glaive-wielders struck down, leaving Ridi nowhere to go.

"NO!" She screamed, quickly diving away from where she stood. "I won't let you kill me in battle, vampire!" She fell to her side, a sting in the back of her leg. She glanced back to see a dark arrow, stained with blood, pertruding out of her calf. She quickly turned to the captain, wearing that menacing smile that now was growing familiar. "I won't let you kill me here on this field," she told him. "Do with me as you wish, but you are not going to kill me on this field."

"Why wouldn't I kill you?" The Vampire Captain asked queruously. "I have plenty of reason to, and it would be highly amusing, so tell me your reasons." Taking a step back, he folded his arms, and the rest of the Vampires relaxed slightly, the tension vanishing.
