The Vampire army quickly crossed the river, entering Elven lands. They darted underneath cover, moving quickly, simply shadows, never truly seen. They quickly moved towards the forest, for if they entered it's shadowed light, they would be nearly unseeable. Outer scouts kept watch for signs of Elves, for they would contest this spearhead into their land fiercely.

Scampering to shield their loved ones and gather their weapons, Elven forms moved left and right to prepare for the invasion of the Vampires.
"WE WILL NOT RUN AWAY! WE WILL MARCH IN AND FIGHT FOR OUR LAND, FIGHT FOR OUR RIGHTS TO SURVIVE!" the Elf army leader screamed, catching the attention of all the scurrying bodies. "IF YOU DIE, YOU HAVE DIED PROTECTING OUR PEOPLE! YOU WILL BE HONOURED AMONG US, AND WE WILL TAKE CARE OF YOUR FAMILIES!"
After the words filled the night air, there was no sound but the approaching Vampire armies. All the Elves stood still, ready to shed blood with their poised weapons.
"FIGHT!"

The Vampires entered the forest, and each one cloaked themselves in Darkness. They moved quickly towards the Elven camp, which the Vampire scouts had found several days in the past. The main vanguard approached closer, then stopped all at once. They each took out an odd looking crossbow, and aimed it at the only place the Elves could come at them from. Meanwhile, a smaller force of Vampires that had been trained extensively in infiltration moved around, circling behind the Elven camp. They were poised to strike at the Elven women and children, slaughtering the dependants, while the rest of the army engaged the Elven army.

A rush of simultaneous movement erupted through the battle as the Elven troops sprinted forward, brandishing their weapons and their lives.
Bloody collisions spurted throughout, Elves and Vampires alike dropping dead or staggering with wounds.
The cry of children haunted the presence of the horrible battle scene, and horrified women tried to cover the youths' innocent ears and eyes, terrified of what may come.
As one particular Elf stabbed a Vampire in the stomach with sweat and blood pooling off his forehead, he whispered one sentence that was lost in the roar of battle:
"The worst is still to come.."

The Vampires let loose a flurry of crossbow bolts, slaughtering scores of elves as they charged, while a row of Vampiric swordsmen leapt forward. They slashed and dodged with preternatural speed, killing even as they fell. More Vampires charged forward, attacking unprotected necks, sucking the sweet lifeblood out of the Elves. Some of the fallen Vampires rose up again, having nonlethal wounds, as they would only die from cutting off the head, stabbing through the heart, or loss of blood.
The smaller infiltrating group of Vampires fired off volleys of flaming crossbow bolts at the buildings of the Elven camp, then charged, slaughtering the women and children with impunity. The slaughter continued, as the war was on the rise.
A Vampire Commander cried out to retreat, and the Vampires disengaged, while volleys of crossbow bolts rushed out to cover the retreat, killing more Elves. The battleground was littered with the fallen bodies of both Elves and Vampires alike.

As fast as they had invaded, the Vampires swooped out of the battle, leaving an array of blood-soaked Elven corpses, and those lucky enough to survive just staring at the mess.
All was silent, even the younglings were still and not making any noise, their faces still covered by the hysterical mothers.
It had been a tragedy for sure. The ground was splattered with blood and body parts, lone weapons and splayed clothing. It was a terrible disaster, and heart-wrenching to see so many of their kin lying dead upon the ground.
When the Elven attack leader spoke, his voice was brittle and hollow. "There have been a great many losses, but we need to bond together in our time of mourn to create a stronger barrier, make a more powerful force, and get higher quality gear. For now, respect those dead-- they died saving you, and we must save what they protected so well in return."

((Make note of the attack on the Elven encampment... I slaughtered a bunch of women and children there... ^_^ squee!))
The Vampires retreated out of the forest, as they had only meant to hurt the Elves, not defeat them by any means. As a last parting gift, scores of Vampires fired up oil-soaked bolts, and shot them at the forest, setting part of it alight. Knowing this would deeply wound the Elves, the Vampires left with a certain smugness, just to the river, but did not cross it. They began to set up a camp there, and started to make defenses, such as trenches and small walls. The Vampires intended to keep the territory they had taken.

Several members of the Elven army gathered fallen weapons and blood-covered shields, the burning of their forest smashing their pathetically poor state hard.
"We'll get them out," seethed an Elf, angrily twisting the knots of the armour to pry it off a body. "No matter what, they cannot take our land.."
Many seemed to agree with this, but the silent collection of bodies and precious materials resumed. The horror of the incident seemed to burn into the minds of the Elves, and flashes of the battle flew through their minds. It was a heavily scarring experience, but they were used to it.. It was their job, after all. A sick and saddening one for sure, but it was nessecary for survival.

The Vampires sent a comminique to Kirsdarke that their mission had been successful. They continued to shore up their defenses, in case the Elves foolhardedly attacked them. A dozen Vampires trained in the art of Dark Magic formed a circle, and focused. A new Vampire appeared in their midst, with features from all of them, and looked slightly... odd. He proceeded to walk toward the Elven forest, with a little flag of truce held up in his right hand. When he reached the Elves, he said in an oddly hollow voice, "There is a simple way to end this battle..." he began.

Stopping still, the leader of Elves stared at the Vampire, noticing that he looked a bit strange.
"What is it? What do you want from us?" he bitterly demanded, eyes flashing in anger and disrespect. "Wanna kill more of our people? Take over our lands?? Destroy everything that we believe--"
One of the other Elven males smacked the leader's arm, glaring at him.
"They've come to make peace! Stop harrassing them!" the Elf said, his tone slightly cold and harsh. "Anyway, I'm sorry about him. We just don't like LOSSES. What do you need, Vampire?"

"I have come here to offer terms," the strange Vampire said. He smirked slightly. "The terms are your unconditional surrender, and we take custody of all your lands." The Vampire knew they wouldn't accept these terms, but he didn't really care. It was honorable to offer terms, and honor was everything.
Meanwhile, back at the Vampire camp, swords were sharpened, bolts fletched, and the Vampires prepared for war.

"NO!" the once civil Elf spat angrily. "Who do you think you are?! These are our lands!! Go kill the Humans, they are the real threat in this war. We will NOT surrender!"
Turning to the frozen men and women, the Elf nodded sharply and they quickly gathered supplies and prepared for another battle.
"You're sending misery upon our people.." snarled one rebellious Elf, raising his bow. "DIE!"
With that, he fired the arrow straight through the Vampire's heart, ignoring the screams surrounding him.

The Vampire image wavered, then shattered, revealing it was just a magical shadow. Slightly mocking laughter formed, sounding and reverberating all throughout the forest, echoing over and over again.
Back at the Vampire camp, the Vampires knew this would inflame the Elves with a suicidal hatred. They quickly scattered caltrops over the ground, and soaked the grassland between the forest and the river with oil. More Vampires covered pre-dug holes with sharp spikes at the bottom with grass. They weren't expecting to hold the land forever, but they would make the Elves pay dearly for it.
With all the preparations made, the Vampires retreated back behind their wooden palisades and stoneworks, ready for an assault at any time. Crossbowmen stocked up on bolts, and moved into their trenches. Swordsmen got into position to hold the entrances to the hastily thrown up camp. Spellcasters prepared their lifeforces for their spells, and got ready for a major spellbattle. The Vampires were prepared for full out war!

Just as expected, the Elves crept up to the Vampire's small setup, surrounding the camp. They avoided anything looking peculiar, but that didn't stop some from falling into pits or crashing into things that hadn't been there previously.
Arrows suddenly flew out of their group as several Elves fired before planned. This caused all of them to immediately begin attack on the Vampires, stumbling over the traps that they had set up.

The wizards summoned dark fire, and very quickly the entire grassland burned, as the oil immediately caught aflame. Huge volleys of arrows flew out at an almost impossible rate, due to the fact that the repeater didn't have to be reloaded until 5 bolts had been shot. Swordsmen leapt out to meet the Elves' furious charge, and hacked with deadly grace. Dark mages cast spells of Power, that felled dozens of Elves, and the battle raged on.
Behind it all, the flames burned on, where the ashes of scores of Elves drifted, crying out to be avenged.
And the battle raged on...
