For centries now, Lord Zane Altec Alhgeiri and his people had been secretly observing human affairs and conduct from the shadows. They had watched them evolve over time even while feeling the reprecussions of their failures and successes moreso than the humans themselves did.
Truly though, how could any race who believed that they had the,' god given right to rule, as they so eloquently put it, turly be left alone and unwatched. How could he not fell prey to the temptation to study them, to learn their customs, their habits, and their reasonings.
None of his studies however, had prepared hm for this war though. he should have seen it coming, though even if he had, it would have been nearly impossible to prevent it. as he usually did. This time, when all of the other races in Daith had turned against the humans in a fight for their lives and the continued existance of their lives and the keeping of their homelands, the lands where they were born, and where they wished to die of old age. No, this time, it would be as simple as listening at human alters, as taking prayers for battles in this place and that, and keep his people away from that area. This time he listened in to head off the human forces, and relied on the backing mainly of the wizards to help his people.
The alliances held, normally worn thin by ancient grudges and feuds, had broken for thi time. For one of the first time since the Old War, as it was now referred to, the very war in which Zane's own father had fought and lost his life, Zane knew that there would be no turning back and no making like tree sprites and hiding out until the war blew out as stormy weather did.
And this was the reason that found himself astrally projecting into the human realm now. Making himself a wraith in the shadows, watching, waiting, listening, and planning...and occasionally even influencing. Even as he gained an advantage through this he left himself at the mercy of others, for his body remain now unsees, unhearing, completely open to attack while his being, his soul, if one wished to call it that, now perused the human camp in a disguise that few would be able to see through.
