He had been right, for now it had faded into the depths of his mind and would remain dormant for a time...until the time it found suitable to take over his mind and do its will, however he knew how to fight it, and he would as best he could when that time came...if only to buy the others time when it did.
"Will you pipe down sis, you're giving me a headache and a half," he snapped at Ally, glaring at her rather grumpily.

Ally immediately shut up and stared at her brother with wide, innocent eyes.
"B-But I thought it would destroy you!" Ally cried in surprise and relief with a smile slowly taking over her face.

Rini watched, also releived. She turned back into her human form, and smiled a small smile. "I'm glad you are ok Altan." She said quietly, looking to her freind, then Altan. She wanted to take him and hug him, but she knew that would probably result in his displeasement, so she satisfied herself by simply smileing.
(*smiles towards milly* heh heh, remember our joke about Altan and Rini?? ^_^ no worries, it won't really happen...)

Ally laughed warmly, craning her head around the trees before her eyes grew serious. A thought was obviously forcing through the fibers of her mind, clouding her face and temperament. Her laughter dropped off to nonexsistance and her tone dropped as she spoke three of the most serious words she had ever spoken.
"Is Zane here?"

Long, elegant fingers slid through pale hair as Altan rubbed at his head as though to emphasize the fact that she'd given him a headache, which of course she hadn't, but it seemed a good time to play it up, to hide what all knew had just occurred...well not to hide, no it was far too late for that...but at the very least it pushed the issue of possession aside for the moment.
His hand then dropped back into his lap and he looked around, hoping he didn't look half as tired as he felt. Rini was smiling and he returned it hesitantly with one of his own, knowing that it was likely to hint at his weariness...it hadn't manage to reach his eyes, there was too much to think about right now, a future to contemplate even more so now that the spirit had found new residence within him, and then there was...No..best not to think of that now.
He pushed all of his thoughts aside for the time being and glanced from Rini to his sister Ally as warm laughter floated up past her lips and he grinned much like he had when they were younger and he was either up to something that would amuse them both, or had been caught doing something he likely shouldn't have been doing. And that grin seemed to steal years away, making him look infinitely younger than he had a moment before, almost like a child again, but then it too fell away, as all things must eventually do, and he closed his eyes as he concentrated, sending a mental probe outward for a familiar presence which was felt almost immediately.
Then eyes flicked open once more and he nodded in answer to Ally before saying, "Yes..he's here, in spirit if not in body."

Spears of confusion struck through the Elf's many layers of masked protection. Probing interrogations pulsed through the stiff encasing, and her dark head dropped almost immediately to hide her struggling face, contorted with unknown answers. It had become habit, ritual, normal for the younger girl to have to hide these expressions to keep from paining those around her.
Slowly lifting her face to meet her brother's exhausted front, a small smile managed to fight itself onto her lips, clenching the jaw to keep it from disappearing. Her cheeks remained sturdily set into the hardened position that they had adapted over time, but it was a good attempt nonetheless.
"What do you mean, Altan?" she spoke quietly, voice skittering along the fallen leaves against the ground. The low tones grazed a chilling point in herself, almost scaring her that she managed to sound that sunken and haunted. "I don't.. understand."

Realizing how his words skirted on cryptic with all of their possible meanings, few of them good, he decided to answer her. "I told you, he cannot leave the confines of the palace as things are, his presence, his power there is what keeps up the defenses, but he can project himself in spirit form, allowing him to see what goes on around him without actually having to be physically removed from the premises on which he must stay for the continued survival of his people...he projects himself now...I can sense him here with us," there was a pause and he frowned slightly. "Though I do wonder why he does not show himself." Another, longer pause and then, "Perhaps there are others nearby that we do not yet know about."
Perhaps that was it indeed he thought darkly as he scanned the area again with his mind, this time seeking out the presences or rather the mind patterns of those races against them instead of Zane's ever familiar presence, and he found them too..humans, an entire regiment of them closing in...they hadn't been noticed yet but they needed to be away from here if they wished for that to remain true. "There are humans coming," he said quietly, face returning to its earlier impassive mask as he reached for his staff.
